When MerseyRaces first contacted us back in 2015 it was an exciting time for us. They wanted a production service to cover their Liverpool Spring 10k run. With 4000 runners plus spectators, it was something the team were looking forward to. The organisers at MerseyRaces gave us lots of creative flexibility in terms of video production and took all of our input onboard throughout the project. We were also asked to film the event the following year by the organisers plus cover a shorter Scouse 5k run a few months later.
The planning for this short film was thorough. We held numerous meetings with the organisers in the months leading up to the event to fully understand the scale of what we were capturing. It was important that we understood these aspects as there was no second take with it being a live event. We also held a meeting with our crew before the event. Each member of our team had their own intricate briefing and itinerary to abide by on the day, which was personalised based on their role within the crew.
Communication was key. We rigged up the crew with radio communications, making it easy for us to communicate effectively throughout the event.
Amongst our equipment we utilised a variety of camera rigs, a crane, a camera slider and professional audio devises to capture every detail.
The organisers asked for a short video of the race to be out the same day, followed by the main online video a week later. The videos received excellent feedback online, and proved to be a huge success in promoting the event.
We teamed up with a number of top brands on the day, including globally recognised Lucozade Sport and John West Tuna.
